Thankful and Grateful

Turkey and the trimmings for a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Celebrating the holiday with our "framily"another Thanksgiving has come and gone. I love doing a big family dinner! I love the menu planning, shopping and prepping more than the eating. Although I have to say, this year the food was outstanding. Kissy and I make an amazing team in the kitchen. We started Wednesday baking pies and prepping as many side dishes as we could!

This years menu went like this:

Appetizers

Charcuterie

Homemade Cheese Crackers made by Maryann

Main Course

Turkey

Ricotta Stuffed Shells

Sides

Mashed Potatoes

Stuffing with Apples

Gravy

Green Bean Casserole

Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallow Topping

Cranberries

Homemade Rolls made by Maryann

Mushrooms and Onions

Desserts

Pumpkin Pie

Grandma Irene's Apple Pie with Streusel Topping

Pistachio Tiramisu

The Fiesta Nora Fleming Butterscotch platter made an appearance for the Appetizer course with the Nora Fleming Cornucopia add in. In the center right of the photo you can just see Maryann's cheese crackers. A pandemic baking learning, they are highly addictive cheese crackers, she made parmesan and cheddar. I could sit there and eat the whole bowl!

Kissy and BH supplied an amazing 2018 Three Sticks Pinot Noir from the Walala Vineyard. It paired perfectly with the rich Thanksgiving dishes. Usually, we have Thanksgiving dinner mid-afternoon, this year we began eating about 5:30. It certainly felt later with sunset so much earlier this time of year.

Dessert this year was a triumph! We tried a new recipe, pistachio tiramisu, I got from one of my Facebook groups. Made with imported Italian pistachio cream, marscapone and lady fingers dipped in Amaretto rather the coffee, it was delicious. Kissy made pumpkin pie and we made Grandma Irene's apple pie with streusel topping. Homemade whip cream finished each of them off to perfection!

On to the table setting! From the time I was a teenager (a long long time ago...) I have loved Royal Worcester's Evesham. After college I started buying it piece by piece for myself. I have place settings for at least 15. Recently, a woman here in our town posted she was selling her collection. She had the coveted cream soup bowls but not sell them separately, so I bought her entire set. Over the years I have collected many many serving pieces, I do love the older pieces better, they are far more elegant.

From the Royal Worcester website, Evesham was introduced in 1961, the shape is called Severn. I love the fruit designs on the dishes, the coloring of them is so beautiful. According the website, it uses 26 colors to make the design.

The table was set with a raw linen cloth and dark brown rattan chargers and mixed glassware which I thought gave the table a more modern feel instead the formal I tend to favor.

The glassware was a mix of my Waterford Mourne ice tea glasses and Dollar Store sage green wine glasses. I think the green of the glasses goes so well with the china! We mixed the flatware as well, using the Towle Candlelight with stamped teaspoons from Etsy. We mixed the napkins and napkin rings using two different plaids and alternating mums and leaves to add a little autumn flair!

Finally the centerpiece was two antique fig boxes filled with fresh and silk fall leaves. Kissy and I did our annual Turkey Trot in the morning and picked up acorns, pine cones and oak leaves to add to it. We added alternating heights of candles and it completed the table beautifully!

How ever you spent your Thanksgiving with family, friends, at home or visiting, I hope you had a wonderful holiday and have lots of good left overs to eat!
