Thankful.

Updated: Nov 27, 2022

Good friends, good food, good wines.Thanksgiving started early for me this year with a "Friendsgiving" at work. My contribution was two of Grandma Irene's apple pies and a crock pot full of baked ziti. I work in tech so the diversity of the team is amazing and I love potlucks so we get to try so many different cuisines! Indian Biryani rices, Chinese ribs, American deviled eggs, salad on a stick, veggie strudels and oh the desserts!! So, now that my palette was warmed up, on to our Thanksgiving!

Kissy and the boys and I did our traditional Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning. The 2023 was the first in person one pre-covid and people have missed it! There were over 20,000 runners and walkers. The event is so well done, never felt crowded. After our Turkey Trot, our tradition is a well-made Bloody Mary! Kissy's husband is a master at it!

After a much needed refreshment, we got right down to Thanksgiving prep! But first, the table!

I love love love my Royal Worcester Evesham Gold. I've been buying it piece by piece since college. Because I've bought it piece by piece I have full table settings for at least 12, but plates for many more! Each year, Kissy and I pull out china, linens, chargers, napkin rings, glass and starting laying different settings out. Each year is turns out different!

This years plate stack was a rustic woven place mat from Ikea, a gold charger, the Evesham plate, either an amber or green "Swirl" depression glass side plate, a plaid napkin found via another blogger from Amazon wrapped in a brown organza napkin and a mum napkin ring. I love the mum napkin rings, they are so big and fluffy! They really make a statement! Silverware was Towle Candlelight with a teaspoon from Etsy -- three different messages. The glassware echoed the depression glass with a sage green stemmed wineglass from the Dollar Store (I love the color of these glasses!) and a stemless amber and gold speckled wine glass!

The centerpiece was flowers from the Farmer's market and Trader Joe's in an amberina glass console which was a gift from my SIL. The tablecloth is a rusty brown one I've had for years and the table scarf, a beautiful linen scarf with wheat, fruit that echoes the pattern on the Evesham plates. It was actually the inspiration for the table.

Bauer Orange candlesticks with sage green candle completed the table.

Pies were baked on Wednesday, because as hubby says, "It's all about the pie!" Three varieties this year, Grandma's apple pie, pumpkin pie and new one, chocolate chip pecan with just a hint of bourbon. YUMMERS! We roasted an 18.5 pound turkey, I always stuff my turkey with my mom's stuffing which includes onions, apples, celery and mushrooms. He was a beautiful bird!

Sides included mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cheesy bacony corn casserole, green bean casserole, mushrooms and onions, cranberries and for vegetarian son, homemade ricotta gnocchi with sauce.

A "00 Hermann Cuvee" Chardonnay and Caldwell Chardonnay finished the dinner. I am thankful for my family, good friends, good food, good wines.

Friday we were up early, dishes washed and put away (Thanks Kissy!) And to keep that walking streak going, we took the dogs to Harvey Bear Park and walked the 2.2 mile loop!

I hope you and your loved ones had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
