Persimmons & bisons & dishes!

Did you know I had never tasted a persimmon until I moved to California? They are one of my favorite fruits! I love the color, the taste, the shape, the tree, the fall colors of the trees, everything! After the leaves drop off the tree - they look like ornaments waiting for Christmas! As a side note, Fiesta persimmon is not very persimmon colored, but I digress.

The title for this post was almost, "What is big, red and shaggy and roams the plains of the Midwest?" If you don't know the answer, it's bison - and what my husband's college roommates called him! Many of them still call him "Bis." Therefore, we have a lot of bison in the house and I have not one, but two sets of bison dishes. I love the Spode Bison, the colors are so autumnal! At least two times a year I do a bison table. The other set is from West Elm, but that is another table!

Andy's Orchard is just down the road from us and they have wonderful local produce, heirloom varieties and chocolates, honeys -- everything locally made or grown. We stopped in today to pick up apples for Thanksgiving apple pies and the persimmon trees were just stunning! And, looking at the last picture, maybe Homer Laughlin did get the persimmon color right!

I love persimmon bread! The bread is a banana/persimmon/craisin/chocolate chip and pecan bread! Or known as everything bread!

Onto the bison...

I don't remember where we got the bison statue from, but it is displayed proudly on the mantel of the fireplace in the office. I used my favorite gingham napkins and Fostoria Versailles glasses in Amber. The swirls on the glasses are reminiscent of the flowers and scrolling on the plates. Simple, but very fall like - with the addition of a few leaves!

Finally, #1 son is totally in love with the 70's, no idea why, but whatever. I have several Homer Laughlin Casualstone plates in Amber and Avocado. Casualstone is a the same Fiesta pattern and shape, but much lighter weight. Truth be told, I do like the 70's colors of the Casualstone. I had some beautiful mums (that have lasted forever!) and pulled it all together in a tablesetting.

The avocado plates with cinnabar and chocolate berry bowls are perfect with the napkin and braided place mat in the same colors. The pumpkin truck and flowers are a perfect match!
