Memorial Day

My Grandfather was a Commander of a Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post and a World War II veteran and I recall Memorial Days spent honoring those who died while serving. Solemn ceremonies, parades and flags. We raise a flag on Memorial Day and decorate the yard with small flags in tribute to those who have given their lives. Growing up in the midwest, Memorial Day was also the official start of summer, so bright geraniums and daisies always say "Summer!" to me.

This weeks table honors both Memorial Day and the official start of summer. While at the local craft store I found this fabric that I fell in love with bright blues and red and a cute pattern, I bought the end of the bolt. My intent was to try to sew napkins, we will see if I get around to that... in the meantime, I used it as a tablecloth for a Memorial Day table.

Looking at the fabric, I knew as part of the table setting I had to use my Fiesta with the Americana Stars decal and decided to do a mix of vintage and Post 86 dishes.

A metal charger, a Lapis dinner plate, the Americana Stars luncheon plate and vintage Cobalt blue bowl tops it off. I could easily have used my vintage Turquoise chop plates instead of the metal chargers. The stars in the decal have Lapis and Cobalt in them in addition to the Scarlet red. I love how the Stars and fabric complement one another!

The napkins are a Pier 1 maroon crocheted edge and a vintage blue embroidered napkin with a geranium napkin ring. I used the World Market Treble Clef silverware. I don't have a lot of different silverware, and to be honest, these are awkward to eat with, but they are pretty!

The glassware is a Bartlett-Collins Cranberry Goblet and a Post 86 low ball, one of my few Fiesta finds in the wild, found at Goodwill. Isn't the fabric adorable? I am already thinking about a Turquoise and Scarlet table to use this again!

The vintage Ivory covered casserole and bright red mason jar candles complete the table.

Wishing you a safe and happy Memorial Day.
