#FallVibes

Updated: 12 hours ago

Finally! Fall is here! Today is the official start of Fall... the Autumnal Equinox. The days will start getting shorter, the shadows longer and the golden light of autumn arrives. Gone are the spring fruits, cherries and apricots, now the farmers market is full of plums, apples, peppers, squashes, sunflowers and dahlias.

I was a child of the 70's - and the earth colors were everywhere - Harvest gold, Burnt orange, Avocado green. My childhood home was no exception, add in macrame, plaid and crocks full of dried flowers -- well you get the picture. It is surprising to me, how I've settled into the same color palette for my house.

The fall colors fit in so well with my decor -- every year I tell myself that I am not going to buy more fall decorations. Well, best laid plans...

I love that mushrooms are the hot decorating trend right now! My Polish heritage celebrates all things mushroom! We call them grzyb's (jzee-baa's.) I have had mushroom statuary all over my yard for years; my Christmas tree has mushroom ornaments and I love cooking with mushrooms!

All of the fresh veggies at the Farmer's Market inspired me to make vegetable soup -- for now and for the freezer. #1 Son is a terrific sous chef - he does a great job chopping and cutting vegetables -- and is a super soup stirrer! Sweet Italian peppers, onions, leeks, green beans, carrots, celery, yellow squash, zucchini, home canned tomatoes and lots of fresh parsley, basil, oregano and a pinch of red pepper flakes!

Since we were chopping, we chopped enough to make roasted veggies for dinner... added mushrooms and potatoes too! Olive oil, garlic, salt pepper -- roasted for 45 minutes or so at 425°. They are good to eat hot, cold or warm.

The roasted veggies paired well BBQ ribs and macaroni salad for dinner.

Next up is Halloween, which I can't wait to decorate for, but for now I will celebrate all things Fall!
