Currier and Ives

It is amazing what you remember from your childhood, not surprisingly, I remember dishes... my mom's, both of my grandmother's and I remember my mom had Currier and Ives blue and white dishes. When I asked her, she said, maybe? She collected S & H Green Stamps, maybe she got them from the catalog? Again, she said, maybe? It's a rainy Saturday, so friend Kissy and I decided to play with dishes.

I usually use my Currier and Ives in winter. I love the color and transferware pictures, the pattern is called "Old Grist Mill." The scenes are so intricate and I love the snowy scenes the best. This table is full of patterns! The toile with the flour sack print, with the woven placemats and the dishes, it makes me happy!

As I was thinking about what to use with the table I realized I do not have a lot of blue dishes other than the blue Fiesta.

The toile tablecloth I found in the cabinet, brand new in the package, no idea where I bought it, although I am certain I have Currier and Ives in mind when purchasing because the blue matches perfectly! The red table runner is a piece of fabric I think I bought at Hobby Lobby because I thought it would be good for 4th of July, turns out it also goes with other dishes.

Kissy and I tried many placemat combos, navy, red, turquioise, straw and loved this one, it's not too busy with all of the patterns. The napkins are antique ivory embroidered, admittedly they could have used a quick ironing!

The tablesetting is Royal Currier and Ives, dinner plate and berry bowl, the silverware is my everyday silverware Mikasa Harmony. The silverware water spots really easily -- but a quick rub with the Magic Eraser and they shine right up! The glassware is Lenox Tuscany. The bread plates are from my favorite antique store that just closed, they Liberty Blue Monticello. The napkin rings are pewter rings from Hobby Lobby, we stuck a daisy in the napkin rings -- they matched the runner. The centerpiece is my vintage ivory Fiesta covered casserole on a Currier and Ives platter.

After setting this table all of the Fiesta blue plates and Currier and Ives went into storage and out came the Fiesta greens and spring plates. Up next is a St. Patrick's table!
