Celebrating Spring with flowers!

Spring comes much earlier in California than in the midwest where I grew up. Bradford Pear trees start blooming as soon as the end of January, followed by the ornamental flowering plums and then the Almonds. It's early April and all the cherries are already done blooming! Luckily, we still have fruit orchards around us, the last holdovers from when San Jose was "The Valley of Hearts Delight."

In the community we live in, we have a lot of green spaces, many of them are former ranches with orchards, this plum is the green space on a bike path we frequent. I try to get to it to pick plums before birds and others get them! There are also almond and walnut trees. We are so lucky to live in such a great area.

Easter this year was a small affair. Just dear husband and boys. Of course, I still cooked like we were having company! And, I still set a table. My mother-in-law's Fransciscan Desert Rose is my go to china for Spring and Easter.

Rattan chargers, Franciscan plates and cabbage plates were the plate stack. The glassware is Waterford Mourne and Fostoria Versailles in pink and green. The rattan napkin ring echoed the charger. Finally, a centerpiece of a 1950's light green console vase filled with flowers from Trader Joe's brought everything together.

One of the things I love most about Franciscan dishes (as well as Fiesta) is the ability to mix the patterns with others! A second spring table featured the same green and pink theme, Franciscan Desert Rose but a total mix of plates!

Friend Kissy and I had so much fun setting this table. So many firsts on this table! I have had these copper chargers for years and never had a setting they would go with! I've had this table cloth for at least 20 years - first time use! New thrifted napkin rings that added a pop of dark pink.

One my favorite antique sites as selling little salt dishes in lots of 20, the majority of these were pinks and greens and finished off the plate stacks.

The green dinner plates are Weil Brentwood; a find on Etsy, such a pretty green with dogwood flowers! The square ones are Metlox Peach Blossom. The middle plates were Monet's garden luncheon plate from Giverny, Homer Laughlin's Apple Blossom and Pier One's Spring plaid.

This is one of my most favorite tables, I loved the variety of patterns. We loved pulling dishes, placemats, chargers, tablecloths and napkins out and mixing and matching, so much fun! My everyday Mikasa Harmony silverware and the Noritake Breeze glasses in a grey green finished the table. I hope you are enjoying your Spring!
