Apple Truck and Sunflowers

September brings a bounty at the local farmer's markets and lot's of apples and sunflowers! These early harbingers of fall always inspires me to bring out the Franciscan Apple pattern. Our local farmer's market has a wonderful flower vendor with beautiful bouquets, you can build your own or they will make one for you. I love to mix and match flowers and this week the mix of cheerful sunflowers, purple veronica and the beautiful burgundy of the love lies bleeding made a perfect bouquet!

Of course, with the apples, the apple truck had to come out -- filled with fall produce! Soon it will be filled with fall leaves and pumpkins! BFF Jane and hubby were out visiting and so we had to set a table for breakfast! Jane and I both love Fiesta and she has a four place settings of Franciscan October, because we both love fall!

My dear hubby made a breakfast casserole and we put together a fruit salad and had a lovely breakfast.

The tablesetting was simple, but perfect for a breakfast table. A green woven placemat, with a dinner plate on top of it was the only plate stack. The apple napkin rings are not Franciscan, and I can't remember where I bought them - maybe Etsy? The apples and leaves in the napkins match the Franciscan very nicely! Brown gingham napkins bring out the brown in the plates and napkin rings. My all-purpose Noritake Breeze glasses and Mikasa Harmony flatware finished off the place setting.

The farmer's market had amazing plums and pluots, so I had to make a spice cake with plums and streusel. The sweet and tart plums with the cake flavored with Penzey's cake spice and Grandma's streusel completed our farmer's market goodness! The cake is Smitten Kitchen's Summer, I used plums instead of strawberries, added cake spice, covered with streusel, it is a perfect fall dessert.

We had a wonderful visit with Jane and her hubs, time is more precious because they live in Wisconsin. We look forward to seeing them again soon!
