A sunflower and an apple a day...

Updated: Sep 8, 2023

The end of summer is all about apples, sunflowers and hills around our house are a beautiful gold. As summer fades into fall I can't jump from one season to another without some sort of bridge... apples and sunflowers!

For the first time I can remember, there are sunflower fields near our house. They are a shorter variety, not sure if they are planted for seeds or oil, but they are bright and cheery! They follow the sun as it crosses the blue sky.

It appears there are a few different varieties, a big head, some with multiple flowers that are smaller and with more petals.

My bestie and her hubby were here for a long weekend visit and I set an apple and sunflower table to welcome them.

The reds, greens and golds of the table complement the colors in the living room. I wanted this table to be a bit old fashioned and casual.

The tablecloth is the crocheted lace table cloth that has been on this table as set by my Grandma Irene. It is getting frayed, but it is much a part of the memories of my grandma's house. On top of the lace cloth is a square table cloth I found at a local antique store. The colors are rich and beautiful, turned on an angle, it adds a great base for the Franciscan Apple plates. The tablecloth works for Valentine's Day or Christmas as well. In the center of the table is a dough bowl with apples, pears, sunflowers and candles.

The plate stack is rattan charger, I love the color of these and the size! Next is a Franciscan Apple dinner plate with a bread plate on top. I played around with a few other smaller plates, ultimately the apple won out! The napkins are from Amazon, they were a find from a blogger I follow and as soon as I saw them, I ordered them! The rattan napkin rings complement the charger.

The silverware is Treble Clef from Cost Plus; beautiful, but hard to eat with! The glasses are Noritake Breeze in a lovely gray green color.

I could do not a tablesetting without adding a bit of Fiesta! The colors so naturally mix together with the Franciscan! I didn't really have a plan, I just went to the cabinet, grabbed apple colors and mixed them in!

This is a Claret berry bowl and a vintage Forest green luncheon plate.

Adding a Shamrock berry bowl.

This is a vintage Chartreuse luncheon plate and a Jade salsa bowl.

I just love all of the patterns and textures in this one! The carpet, the chair, the lace, the tablecloth, the charger, the wood, the silverware! I especially like the polka dots on my big toe! (Ooops!)

I added sunflowers all over the house as part of my summer into fall decorations. Near the fireplace there is a vase of sunflower and on the table in the foyer, a green truck with apples and sunflowers.

The family room and the kitchen also have sunflowers! Our local farmers market has beautiful flowers, I can't help myself from buying a bouquet each week! Persimmon and original yellow Fiesta are perfect colors to complement the season.

Fall is around the corner, but not too soon!
